The following information is provided to current and new members regarding the procedures for running the WGG for 2024. The committee, on an annual basis, will review these rules. If you have a suggestion to improve the group, send an email and the committee will discuss it and get back to you.
ORGANIZATION
A committee of five players considers all matters concerning the group and provides rulings and/or assistance in conducting each game. No more than two (2) committee members will be changed out on a yearly basis in order to maintain continuity. The 2024 competition year starts October 14, 2023 and finishes with a 2 day Year End Tournament (YET) on October 5th-6th 2024.
The group alternates play regularly at Braelinn, Flat Creek, and Whitewater Creek. The WGG tries to have one weekend day per month to play at both White Oak (Newnan) and Canongate (Sharpsburg). These tee times will vary and will be posted on the Home page of this website.
On Saturday, tee times start at approximately 9:00AM or 9:30 AM at the Peachtree City courses, depending on the time of year. Those wishing to play should be there not later than 30 minutes prior to their tee time. Saturday games will be run by Chuck Phillips and Brett Simpkins. Greg Johnson will be the back up.
On Sunday, tee times start at approximately 9:00AM or 9:30 AM, same parameters as Saturday. Those wishing to play should be there not later than 30 minutes prior to their tee time. Sunday games will be run by Bill Anderson and Barry Whatley. Greg Johnson will be the back up. Based on aeration schedules or unusual course conditions, the game may be moved to other venues.
A minimum of 24 players (6 groups) will constitute a game.
To be a member of the WGG, a player MUST be an Invited Club member in good standing and must provide the WGG committee the player's Invited Club Member Number and GHIN number. NOTE: If you are an employee of the Club and have an active GHIN, the employee is eligible to play in the WGG.
TEE DESIGNATIONS
Players will play from the Black, Blue, White, Teal or Gold tees. If you have a birthday that makes you eligible to change tees, you have two (2) weeks from your birthday to email Chuck Phillips with your intent to change. Those wishing to change their preferred tees from last year (outside of your birthday) should do so during the qualifying period between the end of the 2024 YET, Sunday October 6th and Sunday, October 20th, 2024 at midnight. After the qualifying period or a birthday, players may move back to a different tee one (1) time and stay at that tee through the YET. It is the player's responsibility to notify Chuck Phillips of their intentions by email. Minimum tee designations will be in accordance to the below parameters (these are minimum designations. You may choose to play a tee back from where you might qualify based on age. Example: you may be 58 but you prefer to play from the blue tees even though you're eligible to play from the white tees) Black or Blue Tees: 54 YEARS OR YOUNGER (Blue is standard) White Tees: 55 TO 64 Teal Tees: 65 Gold Tees: 70 And Above + GHIN (Index) = 85 OR MORE
Two (2) points will be added to the players points for each tee that they move up. Two (2) points will be deducted from the players points for each tee that a player moves back.
Foursomes can be determined by individual players and should be confirmed with the other 3 players prior to providing to the game boy responsible for running the game. If anyone drops out of the foursome a player from the waiting list will have priority to fill that spot. If you are a new player or do not have a foursome submit your name via email to the appropriate game boy by Wednesday of that week and he will put you in a tee time slot. Every effort will be made to match up players to create a foursome. Reservations should be made as early as possible but not later than Wednesday via email to the appropriate game boy. The person running the game will determine order of tee times. NOTE: If all tee times are filled before Wednesday, all players that wish to play will be put on the wait list in the order their request was received. If there is/are subsequent opening(s), the slots will be filled according to the order of the wait list.
POINTS NEEDED
NEW PLAYERS: Player's USGA index is converted to the course handicap. Then subtract the course handicap from 36 and that will establish the points you are required to make. Once you have played three (3) rounds, your WGG points will be established. A minimum of ten points (10) will be set for any player to achieve a payout from the Dogfight. This is known as the Denny Wuerl rule.
New players will be frozen for their first three (3) rounds of play. If a new player has joined recently toward the end of the previous YET and is still frozen going into the next year we will continue at the number of games you have played until you reach 3 plays. You will not have to start your 3 rounds again. While frozen, a player cannot collect any Dogfight money. Frozen players may collect Hole In One (HIO) payout as the HIO pot is mandatory for all members of the WGG. Frozen players are only eligible to participate in Gross Skins if they so desire. Skin participation is optional
If a member does not play any rounds for 1 season (from YET to YET) or more you will be frozen for 3 rounds.
FEES
Greens fees and cart fees are the responsibility of each individual and should be handled with the pro shop.
Daily player fee is $15 payable to the appropriate game boy. INCLUDES: $2/Player (out of the $15 daily fee) will be held for the YET. In order to be eligible for the 2024 YET, you must have played 20 rounds with the WGG during the 2024 season. $13/Player (out of the $15 daily fee) for that day's dogfight will go towards the payouts. Payouts vary depending on the number of players. Payouts will be from 7 to 18 places, again dependent on number of players.
NOTE: If a player tees off and plays at minimum 4 holes and then withdraws for whatever reason, the round will count toward that player's total rounds and the player will owe $15 for that day plus any skin entry fee for that day. The player is responsible for giving his money to someone in the foursome to be given to that day's Gameboy and Skin boy (if applicable).
GUESTS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DOGFIGHT. Only one guest is permitted in your foursome. (Check with appropriate game boy for exceptions based on availability) Fivesomes are not allowed unless approved by the game boy and the pro.
HOLE-IN-ONE (HIO) POT
It is mandatory to join the HIO pot by paying a $10 fee. GUESTS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE.When a HIO is made during group play, the player making the HIO will receive all monies in the pot the following week or the next time that player plays. If two holes in one are made the same day the pot will be split. A new pot will be started and another $10 fee will be required from each member to participate. If no HIO is made during the year the pot will be carried over to the next year.
HOLE IN ONE WHEN ROUND IS CANCELED – To align with club policy, if a HIO is made and the round is canceled, the player will still receive the hole-in-one pot.
SCORING AND PAYOUT
Gross score maximum will be double bogey on every hole.
You will receive zero (0) points for each double bogey, one (1) point for each bogey, two (2) points for each par, three (3) points for each birdie and four (4) points for each eagle. Each players total score will be subtracted from 108 to determine the total points a player has made for the day.
Once play is completed, all players in the group will agree on all scores BEFORE a member of your group announces the gross scores made for each player to the Game Boy. Once these scores are announced the scores will be final and there will be no further adjustments. The difference between the points needed and points made will be used to determine winners.
Points needed will be adjusted after each day of play.
If you are -2 or more you will be required to make one less point the next time you play. If you are -1, even, or +1 your points will not change. If you are +2 or +3 you will go up one point. If you are +4 or +5 you will go up 2 points. If you are +6 or +7 you will go up 3 points. If you are +8 or +9 you will go up 4 points. If you are +10 or +11 you will go up 5 points. If you are +12 or +13 you will go up 6 points. This progressive increase will continue at the same rate at +14 plus points.
Payouts will be made once all groups have finished and given their group's scores to the appropriate game boy. WGG will be paying a minimum of 7 to a maximum of 18 players based on the number of players for that particular day. The last place payout is either $15 or $10 depending on the number of players. The minimum payout will be $10/player. If there is a tie and the payout is less than $10/player then those monies will be put in the YET fund. If a member fails to collect any payouts within 90 days those monies will be put toward the YET fund.If you cannot pick your money up, PLEASE designate someone who can.
POSTING SCORES
The committee will post all scores directly with the pro shop. LOCAL RULE: Scores will be posted as turned into the game boy. There will be no adjustments to your total score per the Local Rule. A points tab is provided via the web page to all players. It will show each player's results from the past weekend and the points each player will be required to get the next time you play. Chuck Phillips and Greg Johnson will be the points of contact for all matters dealing with the points and posting of scores.
WEB PAGE
The group's web page can be found on the internet by going to WEEKENDGOLFGROUP.WEEBLY.COM. All information pertaining to the group can be found at this website.
Year End Tournament (YET)
The YET will be a two day tournament conducted on October 5th and 6th, 2024. The group will play for the total dollars collected throughout the year (the accumulation of the $2/player each round played). A running total of the YET fund is on the home page of the website. We will have split tee times on both days starting at 8:30 A.M. You are welcome to sign up for both days or a single day of competition. A payout for each day will occur. In addition, the points will be adjusted after the first day consistent with our regular weekend play. Every WGG member must play a minimum of 20 rounds during the season to be eligible for the YET. Anyone with less than 20 rounds may submit a request for exception to the committee based on their specific situation NLT Sept 22nd, 2024. The committee will make the final determination on the exception request. If a player receives the exception he will be required to pay $15 for every round under 20 rounds (Goes into the YET fund. That's fair).
Points needed will be determined by averaging a player's 10 best rounds out of their last 20 rounds played.
Foursomes will be determined by points needed for the YET. Committee members will be allowed to establish their own foursomes.
The YET dogfight will have two flights ( Flight A and Flight B ). Additionally, a closest to the pin contest will be held for both days of the YET. There is no cost to any player participating in the YET (carts and greens fee are the player's responsibility).
RULES OF PLAY
USGA rules apply except for the following:
ESTABLISHED LOCAL RULES PLUS:
Root Rule: If your ball is in play (not in a hazard) and on a root, you can move your ball a foot away no closer to the hole without penalty. You must confirm with your playing partners before you move the ball as to the appropriate drop. If you are in a hazard on a root, it's a 1 stroke penalty and you can move it just outside the hazard line. If it's questionable, ask your playing partners for direction. This is the rule. We don't want anyone getting hurt hitting off a root.
You may roll your ball one club length in your own fairway. If play is deemed all 18 holes are Cart Path Only (CPO) then you may move your ball one club length everywhere except hazards/penalty areas. If the course has only certain holes that are CPO then you may move your ball on all 18 holesonly in your fairway as per below parameters:
YOU MAY LIFT, CLEAN AND PLACE YOUR BALL: IN THE FAIRWAY(ONE CLUB LENGTH) ON THE FRINGE OF THE GREEN(ONE CLUB HEAD LENGTH) ON THE GREEN(ONE CLUB HEAD LENGTH)
A BALL EMBEDDED IN ITS OWN PITCH-MARK THROUGH THE GREEN MAY BE LIFTED,CLEANED AND DROPPED,WITHOUT PENALTY, AS NEAR AS POSSIBLE TO THE SPOT WHERE IT LAY BUT NOT NEARER THE HOLE. THE BALL WHEN DROPPED MUST FIRST STRIKE A PART OF THE COURSE THROUGH THE GREEN
RAIN OUT POLICY-If play is suspended due to weather, the Game Boy in conjunction with committee members present, will make a determination if play will continue or the round is washed out. 40 minutes will be considered the normal wait time to make the determination unless the weather projection clearly indicates inclement weather. Rainouts/Inclement Weather Conditions Update: If the WGG game is cancelled BEFORE we are scheduled to play, there will be no credit for the round. If we are at the course and the game boy/committee decides that there is no game, and/or, we haven't finished the round and the game gets cancelled, everyone that was signed up to play for that day will receive credit for the round and there will be no $2 charge for the YET fund.
